No more dirt driveway!

It was a long weekend and we used every minute of it to get our garden planted and our driveway finished.  We had the driveway cemented last month and had to finish the landscaping around it.  We ordered 5 yards of dirt and began the process of spreading it around.  We had to have them leave it on the front apron because the weight of the truck would have cracked our new driveway.

So moving 5 yards of dirt is a lot of work!!!!  We have a gorilla cart, our preference over a wheel barrel.  It is a wagon you can dump.  We find it easier to pull the wagon to where we want to go instead of lifting a wheel barrel.  We started moving dirt around 12:30ish and did not finish until around 7:00 pm.  I was exhausted.  It was such a hot and sunny day which did not help.  By the last 15 cartful’s I was barely moving.

We got it all spread and raked out and then laid the grass seed.  I will update you when it grows! :)

Mary Mary Quite Contrary (how does your garden grow)?

Time to tackle the planting of the garden.  First we must remove all the weeds that have sprung up since the beginning of spring.  Wow! That is a lot of weeds... where is Tonia?  This a job for Tonia.

It was a lot of work to get the ground tilled and raked but we worked hard on it all day.  Of course I am not a tiller so Tonia did all the tilling.  She does look pretty professional there though.

After the tilling we raked it all smooth and removed all the stones to get it ready for planting.  We added some top soil to the dirt to make it healthier for the veggies.  Every year we try to add a few bags of top soil to our garden.

Planting the vegetables was the easiest part.  This year I did not plant as many tomatoes because sometimes I go a little over board and they take over the garden.  We put in zucchini, eggplant, hot peppers, green beans, beets and tomatoes.  We also have some basil, parsley and chocolate mint planted.

It is amazing how fast your garden grows.  I cannot wait to start picking and eating!
